Problem With Google Apps Email Account and BlackBerry

Google AppsGoogle Apps email accounts are treated differently from regular Gmail accounts. When setting up Gmail accounts in a BlackBerry device the @gmail.com domain flags the account as a Gmail account and specific backend setup for Gmail is done. However, with Google Apps email, the domain is @yourdomain.com and it isn’t identified as a Gmail account. The existing setup doesn’t provide a mechanism to specify that it’s a Gmail account and the specific Gmail support setup is not applied.

If you are having trouble receiving emails with Google Apps email accounts, when contacting your cell provider’s technical support mention GPOP. The email account has to be set up as a GPOP account which the BlackBerry service interfaces with.

You can download an updated client for your Google Apps domain at http://m.google.com/a – This program will let you access your Google Apps domain email on your BlackBerry

Thank you, SC, but with that client you lose the real-time push capability that you want to use with your BlackBerry.

i managed to set up my google apps email account. you have to specify the email address as abc@yourdomain.com, but when asked for username, prefix it with “recent:” so, in this case it would be recent:abc@yourdomain.com. push email works.

Hi

I had the same problem as this. I tried the recent: method, which did not work for me.

The solution for me was to go to O2′s email site, delete mu account for my old pop server and then add the account again. Hey Presto it worked fine and took seconds.

my understanding is that rim has actually updated their systems to automatically detect if the domain is enabled with google apps.

i just tried deleting and re-adding a domain that i’ve had problems with and it looks works with instant push now enabled.

When u set up your email account on the BIS website, did you need to put in all the other details, or did the server automatically figure them out?

I think the way to install the correct application is explained on this google site:

http://www.google.com/a/help/intl/en/users/mobile.html

Although I agree that it’s a pain in the butt that you can’t use the normal application used for gmail.

How’s this working nowadays? No problems using Google Apps with my own address and get full push to Blackberry? (My goal is to dump BES for BIS and still retain my own address and full mail push)

Thanks!

A quick tip for Outlook users, setup your Google Apps account there then in the online BBery configuration application, select “manual setup” then detect settings from Outlook (you’ll need to install an active x plugin). Works like a charm everytime for POP setups and I believe IMAP as well.

If anyone knows of a better way to get this working, please let me know. This was the only way that I had any success in getting full standard BBery push capability.

Blackberry has introduced enhance plugin for gmail. Just setup the email id the way u do for other gmail accounts. BB takes care of it by asking u to download the enhanced plugin…..so just enjoy ur thumbing !!

I was able to get my Google Apps email inbox working fine on Blackberry by deleting old and re-creating it new. But am having absolutely no luck getting new Google Apps email into Outlook despite having followed the instructions exactly. Any tips appreciated as I hate the Google Apps interface!
